Greensboro, NC (August 26, 2026) – A motorcyclist and a Guilford County Sheriff’s Office deputy were taken to the hospital after a wreck at NC-68 and Albert Pick Road late on Tuesday night, August 25, according to police. Officers responded around 10:01 p.m. after the sheriff’s vehicle, heading south on NC-68, collided with the motorcycle, which was turning left from northbound NC-68 onto eastbound I-40.

Both were transported to local hospitals; their conditions were not released.

The Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate. We hope both have a full recovery.

Why Are Left Turns Onto Highway On-Ramps Especially Tricky to Judge?

A left turn onto an on-ramp requires a driver to cross oncoming traffic while also aligning with the ramp’s direction, adding an extra layer of complexity compared to a standard intersection turn. Misjudging the speed or distance of an approaching vehicle during this maneuver leaves little room for correction.

A motorcycle’s smaller profile can make this judgment even harder for an oncoming driver, since it may appear farther away or slower-moving than it actually is. This visual effect, sometimes called looming, can lead a driver to misjudge how much time they have before another vehicle arrives.

Investigators typically examine each vehicle’s speed, signal use, and line of sight to understand how a crash at a turn like this developed. This kind of review helps establish whether visibility or timing played the larger role in bringing the two vehicles together.
