Roseland Township, MN (June 23, 2026) – Two people were injured in a two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of US Highway 71 and 210th Avenue in Kandiyohi County on Saturday, June 20.

The Minnesota State Patrol, the roadway encounter occurred at approximately 4:03 p.m. when a 2011 Volvo XC70 entered US Highway 71 from 210th Avenue. A southbound 2017 Ford Escape was traveling on the highway at the same time, and the two vehicles made contact within the intersection.

The Volvo was driven by 24-year-old Kobe Patrick Howard of Willmar. The Ford was operated by 75-year-old Marlene Ann Johnson of Fairmont. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and airbags deployed in each vehicle.

Howard and Johnson were reported as injured with non-life-threatening harm. Each was taken to Centra Care Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for evaluation and treatment. Investigators noted that alcohol was not suspected as a factor, and road surfaces were dry when the roadway accident took place.

The cause of the crash remains under review as investigators continue gathering information.

We wish both drivers a smooth and speedy recovery.

What Factors Can Contribute to Intersection Crashes?

Intersections are among the most common places for traffic collisions because vehicles traveling in different directions must cross paths or merge within a limited space. Drivers entering a highway or crossing an intersection often need to judge traffic speed, distance, and timing within seconds.

Visibility can also affect safety. Obstructions such as vegetation, weather conditions, or other vehicles may reduce a driver’s ability to see approaching traffic. Even on dry roads and in clear weather, misjudging a gap in traffic can lead to serious consequences.

Traffic control devices, roadway design, and driver attentiveness all influence how safely vehicles move through intersections. Seat belt use and modern safety features such as airbags can help reduce the severity of injuries when a collision occurs. Understanding these risks can encourage motorists to use extra caution when approaching and entering intersections.
