Jasper, MO (July 21, 2026) – Two drivers were hurt in a head-on collision at the intersection of Base Line Blvd/Hwy M and County Rd 138, about two miles south of Jasper.

The crash happened at about 9:15 p.m. on Monday, July 20, and involved a 2019 Ford F-250 and a 2011 Ford F-150. Emergency units arrived at the intersection, where a medical helicopter had also been requested. Both pickup trucks came to rest in the northwest corner near Paradise Cemetery.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 33-year-old driver of the Ford F-250 from Jasper received moderate injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital Joplin. The 70-year-old driver of the Ford F-150 from Wichita, Kansas, was also taken to the same hospital with moderate injuries. Troopers said one of the pickups turned into the path of the other, leading to the collision.

The damaged trucks were removed from the roadway by towing crews so traffic could safely resume. The cause of the crash remains under investigation as more information becomes available.

We wish both drivers a full and speedy recovery.

Why Head-On Collisions Commonly Result in Serious Injuries

Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of roadway collisions because the force of both moving vehicles is concentrated at the point of contact. Even at moderate speeds, occupants can experience significant trauma due to the combined impact.

Investigators usually review vehicle positions, roadway markings, witness statements, and any available electronic data to determine how a head-on crash occurred. Factors such as turning movements, visibility, traffic controls, and driver actions may all be examined during the review. Medical evaluations also help document the extent of injuries, while photographs and physical evidence from the roadway can provide additional insight into the sequence of events. These findings are commonly used to build a clearer picture of what happened as the investigation progresses.
