Ukiah, CA (July 22, 2026) – Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle rollover along SR-20 near the Russian River Bridge west of mile marker 33.4 on July 21.

According to dispatch information, the collision was reported shortly after 6:00 a.m. on SR-20 just west of East Road near the Russian River Bridge. One of the vehicles, identified as a Honda Pilot, overturned during the crash, while the second vehicle came to rest nearby with major damage.

Both occupants of the overturned SUV were able to get out on their own and were seen walking near the vehicle. Emergency units arrived to find the eastbound lanes blocked while crews worked to assist those involved and clear the roadway. Initial reports indicated two people were hurt.

The identities of those involved and the extent of their injuries had not been released as of Wednesday morning.

The cause of the collision remains under review, and additional information may be released as the inquiry continues.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected, and we wish those who were hurt a smooth recovery.

Why Rollover Crashes Usually Result in Road Closures

Rollover crashes frequently require longer roadway closures than many other types of traffic collisions. An overturned vehicle can block one or more travel lanes, requiring traffic to be redirected while crews safely remove the vehicle and clear debris. If more than one vehicle is involved, the process may take longer because damaged vehicles usually require specialized towing equipment.

Medical evaluations, roadway cleanup, and documentation of vehicle positions can also contribute to delays in resuming normal traffic. Drivers approaching these situations are encouraged to reduce speed, remain alert for changing traffic patterns, and follow temporary lane restrictions. Allowing extra following distance can help lower the risk of secondary collisions in areas where congestion develops after a serious roadway emergency.
