What Is Typically Reviewed After a Multi-Vehicle Accident?

A multi-vehicle accident may require a detailed review of several factors to determine how the vehicles moved before contact. Investigators may examine vehicle positions, roadway markings, traffic signals, photographs, and damage patterns. Statements from people who witnessed the accident can also help establish what happened moments before the vehicles came together.

Weather and visibility may be considered when they could have affected driving conditions. Vehicle maintenance records may also provide useful information if a mechanical problem is suspected. Data from onboard systems can sometimes provide information about speed, braking, or steering before a collision. Medical records may be reviewed when people are hurt, while vehicle inspections can help document the extent of damage and clarify the sequence of events.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
