Honolulu, HI (July 29, 2026) – A 21-year-old man was critically injured early on Tuesday, July 28, after a hit-and-run driver caused him to lose control and strike a telephone pole on Sand Island Access Road, according to Honolulu police. Emergency crews responded around 6:53 a.m. and provided life-saving measures before taking him to the hospital in critical condition.
Police said an unidentified driver turning left from a driveway struck the man’s vehicle as it traveled in the opposite direction, causing him to lose control. The other driver left without stopping to help or provide information. Officers do not believe speed was a factor, though it remains unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
The Honolulu Police Department’s Vehicular Homicide Section continues to investigate. We hope the man has a full recovery.
