What Happens When a School Bus Is Involved in a Collision?

School bus collisions can involve several types of injuries, depending on where people are seated and how the vehicles or structures are struck. Children may experience bruises, cuts, or other harm even when the reported injuries appear minor at first.

Medical evaluations can help identify injuries that are not immediately obvious. Records from those evaluations may also document symptoms and treatment following a wreck. Photos of vehicle damage, damaged property, and roadway conditions can provide useful information about what occurred.

School buses are designed with safety features such as high-backed seats and reinforced construction. Even so, a collision can expose passengers to sudden movement and force. Parents and guardians should seek appropriate medical attention when a child reports pain or other symptoms after a bus accident.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
