Chelan, WA (August 23, 2026) – A 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling southbound on SR 97A went off the road and entered a ditch near Chelan on Friday, August 21. The vehicle came to rest partially blocking the southbound lane near milepost 236, about one mile north of Chelan.

The Jeep had three occupants, including a 17-year-old driver, a 17-year-old passenger, and a 19-year-old passenger. All three were wearing seatbelts and were hurt in the wreck before being taken to Chelan Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was later recovered by Big Valley Towing. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, and potential charges are also being reviewed.

We hope everyone hurt in the wreck makes a full and steady recovery.

What Happens After a Vehicle Leaves the Road?

When a vehicle leaves the road, investigators typically review roadway conditions, vehicle damage, and the position of the vehicle after it comes to rest. Tire marks, debris, and damage to nearby objects can also help establish the vehicle’s path.

Seatbelts can reduce the risk of occupants being thrown from a vehicle during a rollover or other serious roadway crash. The type and severity of injuries can vary based on vehicle speed, restraint use, and how the vehicle moves after leaving the travel lane.

Roadside ditches can also create additional hazards because uneven ground may cause a vehicle to roll or become difficult to control. Drivers should remain alert near curves, narrow shoulders, and sections where the pavement borders uneven terrain.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
