Why Cooking Fires Can Displace Families Quickly
Cooking fires can spread fast if flames reach nearby cabinets, grease, towels, or other materials in the kitchen. Even when firefighters contain the fire to one room, smoke can move throughout the home and make it unsafe to stay there.
Smoke damage can affect walls, furniture, clothing, air quality, and electrical systems. Families may need temporary housing while the home is cleaned, inspected, and repaired. Fire officials regularly review the stove area, nearby items, ventilation, and burn patterns to confirm how the fire started and prevent similar incidents in the future.
