What Happens When an SUV and Horse-Drawn Buggy Collide?

Crashes involving motor vehicles and horse-drawn buggies can create serious safety concerns because the two types of transportation differ greatly in size, speed, and visibility. A motor vehicle can reach a buggy quickly, giving its occupants and the person handling the horse little time to react.

Visibility is especially important on rural roads. Drivers should watch for slower-moving transportation, maintain a safe following distance, and adjust their speed when approaching curves, hills, or areas with limited sight lines. Horse handlers also need to remain alert to nearby traffic and roadway conditions.

After a serious roadway accident, records may include vehicle damage, photographs, witness accounts, roadway conditions, and medical information. These details can help provide a clearer picture of what took place.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
