Charlotte, NC (August 31, 2026) – Seven people were seriously hurt Monday afternoon when a crash shut down I-85 South near University City Blvd in Charlotte.
The crash happened around 3 p.m., bringing traffic to a standstill along the interstate. Emergency units brought in a specialized mass casualty bus to help move those hurt to area hospitals. Five of the injured people were taken to hospitals aboard the bus. Two others were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The people involved had not been publicly identified as of the initial report. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation as more information is gathered.
