What Factors Are Often Considered in Bicycle and Parking Lot Crashes?
Bicycle crashes in parking lots can involve a variety of factors that differ from those seen on larger roads. Parking lots often have vehicles moving in multiple directions, pedestrians walking between parked cars, and cyclists traveling through areas with limited visibility. Because speeds are generally lower, drivers and cyclists may be less likely to anticipate sudden movements from one another.
After a serious bicycle-related crash, investigators commonly examine vehicle travel paths, visibility conditions, traffic flow within the parking lot, and whether any obstructions limited a driver’s view. They may also review witness statements, physical evidence, and the position of the bicycle and vehicle. These details can help create a clearer picture of how the collision occurred and what circumstances contributed to it.
