Austin, TX (December 17, 2025) – A deadly crash brought traffic to a halt on the southbound lanes of North MoPac Expressway Tuesday morning, leading to the closure of multiple roads and toll lanes in northwest Austin. The Austin Police Department responded to the scene near the 8100 block of MoPac, just south of U.S. Highway 183, around 9:14 a.m.
Tragically, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The details surrounding the collision remain under investigation by APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit. Authorities have not yet released information about the identity of the deceased or the number of vehicles involved.
Due to the severity of the incident, police classified the scene as an “active investigation” and implemented widespread traffic closures. Southbound lanes of MoPac at U.S. 183, along with related on-ramps and toll lanes, were all shut down.
