Boone County, MO (January 1, 2026) – A tragic head-on collision on Tuesday night on Route E in Boone County left a young woman dead and another driver hospitalized with injuries. The fatal crash occurred on December 30, just after 8:25 p.m., on a rural stretch of Route E south of Akeman Bridge Rd.
Reports from Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F confirm that a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500, driven by a 23-year-old male from Harrisburg, MO, was traveling northbound when it veered across the center line. The pickup truck collided head-on with a southbound 2014 Chevrolet Cruze operated by a 24-year-old Harrisburg woman. Both vehicles sustained total damage and had to be removed from the scene by I-70 Towing.
The female driver of the Chevrolet Cruze suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by a paramedic from University EMS at 9:03 p.m. Her body was transported to the Boone County Medical Examiner’s Office. Authorities have confirmed that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The male driver of the Dodge sustained moderate injuries. Emergency medical personnel from University EMS provided initial care before transporting him to University Hospital for further treatment. His current condition has not been released.
Troopers investigating the collision were assisted by multiple officers at the scene, and a full investigation into the cause of the crash is underway. This marks the 50th traffic fatality for Troop F in 2025 and the fifth for the month of December.
Our thoughts go out to the victim’s loved ones and all those affected by this heartbreaking event.
Head-on Collisions in Missouri
Collisions involving vehicles crossing into oncoming traffic—such as Tuesday’s deadly crash on Route E—are among the most devastating incidents on Missouri roadways. These crashes often occur without warning and leave little room for reaction, frequently resulting in serious or fatal injuries.
Route E near Akeman Bridge Rd is a two-lane rural road where visibility and road conditions can fluctuate sharply at night. The limited lighting and narrow lanes on such roads raise the risk of lane departure crashes, particularly after dark. While the full investigation is ongoing, preliminary reports indicate that the northbound vehicle crossed the center line and directly entered the path of the southbound car, leading to a violent impact that left both vehicles totaled.
In 2025, Missouri saw continued concern over driver fatigue, distraction, and impaired driving—common factors contributing to lane deviation accidents. When combined with the lack of protective barriers or shoulders on rural roads, even a momentary lapse in control can result in catastrophic outcomes.
The victim in this crash, a young woman from Harrisburg, lost her life in a matter of seconds due to circumstances she could not control. These tragedies emphasize the importance of infrastructure improvements, increased driver awareness, and continued enforcement of safe driving practices throughout Boone County and beyond.
