Gray’s Creek, NC (April 25, 2026) – A child was killed and another seriously injured after being struck by a car in a Cumberland County neighborhood on Thursday, April 23. The crash occurred just before noon in the 4000 block of Mena Dr, near the intersection of NC 87 and Sand Hill Rd.
According to reports, an 18-year-old driver in a Dodge Avenger went left of center while coming around a curve and struck two children. The children were riding in a toy car that their parents were pulling at the time of the crash.
Both children were taken to a hospital by air for treatment. A 2-year-old child later died from injuries, while the other child remained seriously hurt.
The driver remained at the scene after the crash and was also taken to a medical facility. Authorities said charges are pending as the investigation continues.
