Jasper, MO (January 5, 2026) – A major collision occurred on Saturday night just west of Joplin, leaving two residents injured, one with serious trauma, following a crash at the intersection of MO-66 and Blackcat Rd.

At approximately 7:11 p.m. on January 3, a 2015 Jeep Renegade and a 2021 Ford F-150 collided near the intersection, about one mile west of the Joplin city limits. Authorities stated that the Jeep, driven by a 36-year-old man from Joplin, failed to stop at the intersection and was struck by the westbound Ford F-150.

The impact caused both vehicles to veer off the roadway. The Ford F-150 overturned, and both vehicles sustained total damage. H and H Towing responded to remove the wreckage from the scene.

The driver of the Jeep was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries. He was transported by emergency medical services to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. The 49-year-old man driving the Ford was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries. He was taken to the same hospital via private transportation for evaluation.

Troopers from Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D, including Tpr C.J. Blue, led the investigation. The cause of the crash remains under review.

We extend our thoughts to both men injured in this collision and wish them strength and recovery in the days ahead.

Intersection Accidents in Missouri

Saturday’s accident on MO-66 at Blackcat Rd highlights the ongoing dangers present at rural and suburban intersections throughout Jasper County. Despite signage and visibility, drivers may misjudge the flow of traffic, overlook stop signs, or experience momentary distractions, any of which can lead to devastating collisions.

In this case, preliminary details point to a failure to stop at the intersection as the contributing factor. Crashes involving failure to yield are among the leading causes of severe injury collisions in Missouri, especially when high speeds and multi-directional traffic are involved. The overturning of the Ford F-150 in this crash demonstrates the violent force such impacts can produce, even when safety devices like seat belts are used.

Jasper County’s location at the convergence of major roadways increases exposure to a variety of driving conditions. From unlit rural intersections to higher-traffic corridors like MO-66, the area sees a steady rate of serious crashes each year. This underscores the importance of intersection awareness and compliance with all traffic signs, particularly during nighttime driving.

For those injured in crashes like this, medical treatment, vehicle loss, and time away from work can take a significant toll. Recovery is not just physical; it often requires access to support systems, transportation, and financial guidance. If you’ve been involved in a crash caused by another party’s error, understanding your options is critical.
