Fresno, CA (January 5, 2026) – A wrong-way crash on Highway 99 claimed the life of one man and left two others injured Sunday afternoon in Fresno, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred around 2:00 p.m. on January 4, along the southbound lanes of Highway 99 near Olive Avenue. Authorities say a 58-year-old man driving a Ford Ranger was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when he struck two vehicles headed in the correct direction.
The impact caused all three vehicles to come to rest in the roadway, blocking two lanes of traffic. Emergency responders arrived on scene and transported all three drivers to Community Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the Ford Ranger, whose name has not been released, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The conditions of the other two drivers were not disclosed, but both were hospitalized following the crash.
The California Highway Patrol is actively investigating the incident, including what led the wrong-way driver onto the southbound lanes of the highway.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man who lost his life, and we hope for a full recovery for those injured.
