Jefferson, MO (January 6, 2026) – Emergency responders from De Soto rushed to a multi-vehicle collision on Monday morning that left at least one person injured at the intersection of Missouri 21 and Missouri 110 in Jefferson County. The crash, which occurred around 7:40 a.m., involved three vehicles and disrupted morning traffic in the area.

Medics and fire crews worked to assist individuals suffering from injuries after the collision, including a 68-year-old male driver from High Ridge who was transported by Valle Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital South for treatment. His 2025 Nissan Altima sustained total damage and was towed from the scene.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, the incident began when the driver of the Altima, traveling southbound on MO-21, failed to yield while making a left turn onto MO-110. This action caused the front of a northbound 2015 Toyota RAV4 to strike the right side of the Altima. The force of the impact pushed the Altima into a westbound 2024 Ford F-150, causing a secondary collision.

The Toyota RAV4, driven by a 24-year-old male from De Soto, also sustained total damage and was towed by Ives Towing. The Ford F-150, operated by a 28-year-old male from Festus, had only minor damage and was able to be driven away from the crash site.

Troopers from Troop C, including TPR. C. A. Gate and TPR. C. A. Richardson, assisted in managing the scene and documenting the incident. The intersection remained active for some time as authorities worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the cause.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident. We hope for a full and swift recovery for the injured individual.

Multi-Vehicle Crashes in Missouri

Intersections are among the most common sites for collisions, particularly during high-traffic morning hours. Monday’s crash at MO-21 and MO-110 highlights how a single failure to yield can lead to a chain reaction of impacts involving multiple vehicles and resulting in serious injury.

In Missouri, left-turn crashes continue to pose significant risks, especially at busy highway intersections like this one in Jefferson County. According to state transportation safety data, misjudging gaps in traffic while turning left is a leading cause of severe intersection-related collisions.

This particular crash involved three vehicles traveling in three different directions, northbound, southbound, and westbound, creating a complex crash dynamic. The 68-year-old driver who was injured appears to have made a miscalculation that led to a serious sequence of events. Although all involved were reportedly wearing seat belts, the force of impact was enough to total two of the vehicles and necessitate emergency medical transport.

Drivers should use extra caution when navigating intersections with multiple lanes and limited visibility. Morning sun glare, rush-hour traffic, and pressure to beat changing lights can all contribute to poor decision-making behind the wheel.

For residents of De Soto and the surrounding Jefferson County area, it’s a reminder to remain alert and cautious, especially when making left turns onto high-speed roads such as MO-110 or MO-21. Even a brief lapse in judgment can have lasting consequences.
