Sullivan, MO (January 6, 2026) – A devastating head-on collision east of Green City claimed the life of one woman and left several others seriously injured on Monday morning. The crash occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. on MO-6, about 1.5 miles east of town, in rural Sullivan County.

Authorities say a 2006 Toyota Tundra, traveling eastbound, crossed the center line and struck a westbound 2023 Dodge Charger head-on. The impact caused the Toyota to overturn, coming to rest on its side in the roadway, while the Dodge left the south side of the highway. Both vehicles sustained extensive front-end damage and were towed from the scene.

Tragically, a 62-year-old woman from Milan, riding in the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene by Sullivan County Coroner Robert Wyant at 8:45 a.m. Emergency crews from Green City and Green Castle were among the many agencies that responded to the chaotic scene, along with members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Investigation Unit.

Six additional occupants of the Toyota sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious. A 25-year-old male driver and a 43-year-old female passenger both suffered serious injuries and were transported by Sullivan County Ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center. A 17-year-old male and a 46-year-old male were also injured and taken by Adair County EMS. Two other occupants, a 21-year-old male and a 28-year-old male driver of the Charger, were also transported with injuries. The Charger driver, who is from Macon, was reported to have serious injuries.

This crash remains under active investigation by Troop B of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, with assistance from multiple regional units and first responder teams.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the woman who lost her life. We also wish strength and healing to all those injured in this tragic event.

Deadly Rural Crashes in Missouri

Fatal crashes on Missouri’s rural highways continue to pose significant safety concerns. Monday’s collision near Green City illustrates just how quickly lives can be changed when a vehicle crosses the center line on a two-lane road like MO-6. In this incident, the eastbound Toyota’s sudden deviation led to a violent, head-on impact with the Dodge Charger, resulting in widespread trauma and a heartbreaking fatality.

Many rural roads in Sullivan County and across the state are undivided and lack barriers that might otherwise prevent such crossovers. With limited shoulder space and high speeds, head-on crashes in these areas are often catastrophic. The overturning of the Toyota following the collision is also not uncommon in rural road incidents, where vehicle stability is compromised during violent impacts.

Emergency response times can also be stretched in rural regions, placing more pressure on community EMS and first responder networks like those in Green City and Green Castle. In this case, their efforts were crucial in ensuring the swift transport of multiple victims to Northeast Regional Medical Center, a trauma facility serving much of northeast Missouri.

Beyond the immediate toll of injury and loss, families affected by deadly crashes face long recoveries, both emotional and financial. Support for victims and their loved ones becomes vital, especially when there are multiple injured parties, funeral arrangements, and mounting medical costs to contend with.

Understanding the legal and medical processes following a fatal crash can be overwhelming. That’s why it’s critical to have trusted resources in place to help navigate the aftermath and advocate for victims’ rights.
