Jefferson Co, MO (January 6, 2026) – A man was hospitalized on Monday afternoon following a crash on Gravois Rd involving a parked vehicle and multiple roadside objects. The incident occurred at approximately 1:08 p.m. in the 4200 block of Gravois Rd, within Jefferson County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2020 GMC Savannah van was traveling eastbound when it veered off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle collided with several roadside objects before striking a parked 2014 Acura MDX. The impact caused significant damage to the GMC, which had to be towed from the scene by Northwest Towing. The Acura also sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene.
The 32-year-old male driver of the GMC, a resident of House Springs, was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash. He sustained moderate injuries and was transported by North Jefferson County EMS to Mercy Hospital South for treatment. The parked Acura was unoccupied at the time, and no other injuries were reported.
Trooper J. Hedrick of Troop C is leading the investigation. The cause of the GMC’s departure from the roadway remains under review.
We extend our best wishes to the injured driver and hope for his full recovery.
Parked Vehicle Crashes in Missouri
Crashes involving parked or stationary vehicles can be deceptively dangerous, especially when they result from vehicles unexpectedly leaving the roadway. Monday’s crash along Gravois Rd in Jefferson County is a clear example of how a single vehicle’s deviation can lead to multiple impacts and send someone to the hospital.
While details remain under investigation, the GMC’s travel off the left side of the road suggests a possible loss of control or distraction behind the wheel. Collisions like this often involve hitting utility poles, mailboxes, parked cars, or other roadside structures, each of which can increase the force and severity of the impact. In this case, after striking several objects, the GMC hit a parked Acura MDX, further compounding the crash’s consequences.
It’s important to note that the injured driver was not wearing a seat belt, which could have contributed to the level of injury sustained. Wearing a safety device dramatically reduces the risk of serious harm in single-vehicle accidents and is strongly urged for all road users at all times.
Gravois Rd, like many thoroughfares in Jefferson County, includes both residential and commercial zones, where parked cars are common. Drivers in these areas must remain especially alert, as distractions or sudden maneuvers can quickly result in collisions with fixed or parked vehicles.
Crashes like this may not always appear as severe as multi-vehicle pileups, but the aftermath can be equally distressing. From property damage and medical bills to long recovery periods, those involved may face significant disruptions to their lives.
For anyone injured in a crash involving roadside collisions, understanding your next steps, medically, legally, and financially, is essential.
