Belmont, CA (January 9, 2026) – A crash involving injuries and significant vehicle damage was reported Tuesday afternoon on northbound U.S. Highway 101 just south of the Ralston Ave off-ramp in the Belmont area.
The collision occurred around 11:38 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident involved a brown BMW sedan that sustained major front-end damage. Airbags were deployed, and smoke was reportedly seen coming from the vehicle’s hood. Emergency services were dispatched under code 1141, indicating that injuries were confirmed at the scene.
The crash blocked the first and second lanes, creating a traffic hazard as CHP officers and fire personnel worked to secure the area. A witness observed the collision from a nearby hotel and reported a person walking away on the sidewalk shortly afterward, though it is unclear whether they were involved.
Atlas Towing was requested to remove the disabled BMW, which was not driveable. Freeway Service Patrol units were also called in to assist with moving vehicles to the nearest exit to ease traffic flow.
The incident remains under investigation, and officials have not yet confirmed the total number of people injured or what led to the collision.
We extend our well wishes to those hurt in the crash and hope for a full recovery.
