Snohomish Co, WA (January 9, 2026) – A deadly two-vehicle crash shut down State Route 203 for several hours on Wednesday evening near Cherry Valley Rd, between Duvall and Monroe. The collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. and resulted in the death of one driver, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
Authorities say the crash happened when an 18-year-old man driving southbound attempted to pass slower traffic by entering the northbound lane. As he attempted to merge back, he lost control of the vehicle, reentered the northbound lane, and was struck by an oncoming car.
The young man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to Evergreen Monroe Hospital as a precaution. Both vehicles sustained total damage in the impact.
State Route 203 was closed for several hours while crews investigated and cleared the scene. According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the roadway reopened just after 11:00 p.m.
