Charlotte, NC (January 10, 2026) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train Friday evening in the 5700 block of Old Pineville Rd, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. and involved a Norfolk Southern Railway freight train. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the collision was reported and confirmed that the pedestrian had died from injuries sustained in the crash. No injuries were reported among the train’s crew.
The circumstances surrounding how the individual came to be on the tracks have not yet been released. Norfolk Southern Railway has acknowledged the incident and stated that they are preparing an official response regarding the fatality.
The section of Old Pineville Rd near the rail crossing was temporarily closed to allow for investigation and recovery efforts. Local law enforcement is working alongside Norfolk Southern representatives to determine the events leading up to the tragic incident.
