Numa, IA (January 10, 2026) – A woman was injured and had to be extricated from a van following a rollover crash that occurred on January 5 along Highway J46 in Appanoose County. The crash happened shortly after 8:30 a.m. as icy road conditions contributed to the incident.
According to the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office, 55-year-old Andrew Utterback of Seymour was driving eastbound on J46 when the van lost traction due to a layer of ice on the roadway. The vehicle failed to make the turn onto Main St, slid off the highway, and overturned in a ditch, eventually coming to rest on its passenger side.
A passenger in the van, 43-year-old Sara Blizzard, also of Seymour, was trapped and required extrication by emergency crews. She was transported by ambulance to Mercy One Centerville for treatment of her injuries. The current condition of Utterback was not disclosed.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash, which was attributed to hazardous winter driving conditions.
We send our best wishes to Sara Blizzard for a full and smooth recovery.
