Marietta, GA (January 11, 2026) – Emergency crews responded early Friday morning to a traffic accident with injuries on the southbound side of the Northwest Corridor near Big Shanty Road in Marietta. The incident was reported around 6:26 a.m. and involved a black SUV facing the opposite direction of travel.
First responders from Engine 56 arrived at the scene to find at least one person injured. The individual was reportedly experiencing back and arm pain as a result of the crash. Paramedics provided on-site care, and further medical evaluation was expected. Engine 51 was later canceled as access to the scene required approaching from the northbound direction via Chastain Rd.
Authorities confirmed that the vehicle was traveling against the flow of traffic, though the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The unusual positioning of the SUV led to delays and required a coordinated response from Cobb County units to safely manage the scene.
Traffic in the area was affected during the response but has since been cleared.
Our thoughts are with the injured individual, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.
