Montcalm Co, MI (January 12, 2026) – A 26-year-old man tragically lost his life in an industrial accident on Saturday morning while working at Greenville Steel, according to Michigan State Police.
The incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. at the facility located at 6632 SW Greenville Rd. Authorities identified the victim as Daniel Evans. He and another man had been delivering a scrapped forklift for a local company using a flatbed truck.
According to investigators, the men were in the process of repositioning the flatbed after unloading the forklift when they experienced some form of resistance. Moments later, Evans was found on the ground. Preliminary findings indicate he may have become trapped between the flatbed and the cab of the truck.
Emergency crews pronounced Evans dead at the scene.
The flatbed was owned by J&A Towing of Belding. Police noted that Greenville Steel was not involved in the unloading process. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) has joined state police in investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
