Winterset, IA (January 12, 2026) – A tragic collision late on Saturday night claimed the life of a 23-year-old man after he was struck by a pickup truck along Highway 169 in Madison County, authorities confirmed.
The fatal incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. near East Madison St in Winterset. According to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, the victim, identified as Logan Smith of Winterset, ran into the roadway from the east ditch. He crossed the northbound lane and collided with the side of a southbound Ford F250.
The pickup truck was being driven by an 18-year-old man from Afton. Authorities have not released the driver’s name and indicated he remained at the scene following the crash.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after the collision, but despite their efforts, Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
