Chicago, IL (January 12, 2026) – A serious collision involving two vehicles occurred on the eastbound lanes of I-290 near the Independence Blvd area, leaving at least one individual with life-threatening injuries.
The crash was reported around 4:32 p.m. on January 11. Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to the scene, which unfolded near W Division St. Upon arrival, first responders found two heavily damaged vehicles and began immediate treatment of the injured.
According to early dispatch information, one person sustained critical injuries as a result of the impact. Paramedics administered life-saving care before transporting the victim to a nearby trauma center. The condition of the second driver or additional passengers, if any, has not yet been released.
The Chicago Police Department and Illinois State Police are continuing their investigation into what caused the collision.
