Aiken County, SC (January 12, 2026) – A 61-year-old man from Salley was killed following a two-vehicle crash involving a three-wheel moped and a pickup truck in Aiken County, according to local officials.
The fatal collision occurred around 7:45 p.m. on Walker Rd. Authorities with the Aiken County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Donald Rushton was operating a 2018 Hozhou three-wheel moped traveling northbound when a 2011 Toyota Tundra, also heading north, struck the moped from behind.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found Rushton deceased. The driver of the Toyota was injured and transported to a nearby hospital. No additional injuries were reported in the crash.
It remains unclear whether any of the individuals involved were using safety restraints or helmets at the time of the incident. An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted in Newberry as the South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
