Tama Co, IA (January 14, 2026) – Two drivers suffered serious injuries Monday afternoon in a head-on collision along a rural gravel road in Tama County. The crash occurred at approximately 4:12 p.m. in the 2400 block of M Avenue, just north of Toledo, according to the Tama County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were alerted to the crash via an automated crash detection system from one of the driver’s cell phones. When responders arrived, they found two vehicles with extensive damage near the crest of a hill.
Officials stated that both vehicles had been traveling in the middle of the road and likely couldn’t see each other due to the limited visibility caused by the hill. This blind spot contributed to the head-on collision, which left both drivers with serious injuries. They were treated at the scene and transported for further care. Authorities noted that both are expected to recover.
In the aftermath, the sheriff’s office issued a reminder to drivers about the dangers of gravel roads and the importance of reducing speed when approaching a hill. “Please slow down before the crest of a hill and stay out of the middle of the road even if the shoulders are soft,” officials urged.
Our thoughts are with the injured individuals, and we wish them a safe and complete recovery.
