Dyer County, TN (January 18, 2026) – A tragic house fire claimed the life of a 63-year-old man early Saturday morning in Dyer County. The fire broke out near the 200 block of Pecan Street, according to the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, but despite their efforts, the victim, identified as Jerry Brown, was pronounced dead. No firefighters were injured during the response, authorities confirmed.
Investigators from the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office, an arson investigator, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) Fire Investigation Unit are actively working to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Details regarding how the fire started have not yet been released.
Dyer County Fire Chief James Medling used the incident as a reminder for all residents to prioritize fire safety in their homes. He strongly encouraged the public to install and maintain working smoke alarms in every room, along with carbon monoxide detectors and accessible fire extinguishers.
