Carencro, LA (January 18, 2026) – A deadly pedestrian crash occurred on Saturday on Interstate 49 near Louisiana Highway 182 in Lafayette Parish, leaving one person dead and another injured, according to Louisiana State Police Troop I.
The incident took place on January 17, when a pedestrian attempted to cross the northbound lanes of I-49. At the same time, a 2018 Hyundai Sonata was traveling in the left lane. For reasons still under investigation, the pedestrian was struck by the Hyundai in the roadway. Authorities confirmed that the pedestrian died at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision.
The driver of the Hyundai sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Their condition is not considered life-threatening. The identity of the deceased pedestrian has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
State troopers collected standard toxicology samples from those involved, and the crash remains under active investigation by the Louisiana State Police.
