Phoenix, AZ (January 19, 2026) – A high-speed incident early on Sunday morning ended in a violent two-vehicle accident that left three people seriously injured near Interstate 17 and Bethany Home Rd, according to Phoenix Police.
The chain of events began around 1:00 a.m. on January 18 when officers attempted a traffic stop near I-17 and Indian School Rd. The driver refused to stop and fled the area, leading to a brief pursuit. Shortly thereafter, the suspect’s vehicle crashed into another car near Bethany Home Rd.
Emergency crews from the Phoenix Fire Department arrived to provide care for three occupants of the second vehicle. A woman was found with critical injuries and rushed to a nearby hospital, while two male passengers were transported in stable condition. All three victims were in the vehicle struck by the fleeing motorist.
The driver who fled law enforcement was not injured and was taken into custody at the scene. Police have not yet confirmed the charges being brought against the suspect, and no names have been released pending further investigation.
The intersection and surrounding lanes experienced extended closures as investigators examined the scene and cleared debris from the roadway. Officials have not disclosed what led to the attempted traffic stop or whether impairment played a role.
