Phoenix, AZ (January 19, 2026) – A man lost his life early on Sunday morning after being struck by a truck while crossing the street near the intersection of 22nd Ave and Cactus Rd, according to officials with the Phoenix Police Department.
The deadly incident occurred around 3:25 a.m. on January 18. Initial reports indicate the pedestrian was crossing mid-block, outside of a designated crosswalk, when a truck traveling through the area hit him. The impact left the man critically injured, and emergency crews from Phoenix Fire responded alongside police units.
Medics transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released as authorities work to notify next of kin.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. Based on the early findings, neither speed nor impairment is believed to have contributed to the crash.
The area was closed to traffic for several hours while detectives worked to gather evidence and piece together the circumstances surrounding the collision. The investigation remains ongoing as the Phoenix Police Department continues to examine all factors involved.
