Fort Wayne, IN (May 1, 2026) – A motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon following a fiery collision with a semi-truck on Illinois Road in southwest Fort Wayne.
According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, the crash occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Illinois Road and Ansley Drive. Emergency crews responded to the scene and found that the collision had sparked a fire, sending thick black smoke into the air.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the semi-truck may have pulled out in front of the motorcycle, leaving the rider unable to slow down in time to avoid the crash. The motorcyclist was treated at the scene and transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured but was taken to a hospital for evaluation and is cooperating with investigators.
The crash prompted the closure of both directions of Illinois Road between Getz Road and Thomas Road for several hours, significantly impacting traffic in the area. The roadway was reopened later thursday evening after investigators cleared the scene.
Authorities confirmed that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Crash Investigation Team continues to investigate the incident.
