Franklin Co, OH (January 21, 2026) – A tragic collision in western Franklin County on Tuesday night claimed one life and left two others seriously injured, according to local authorities.
The crash occurred around 9:18 p.m. on U.S. Route 40 near Darby Creek Dr. A 2017 GMC Sierra was traveling westbound when it attempted to turn south onto Darby Creek Dr, crossing the eastbound lanes of US 40. At that moment, a 2014 Cadillac CTS, headed east, collided with the passenger side of the GMC, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputies arrived to find the GMC pickup truck facing westbound in the eastbound lanes of US 40. Both the driver and passenger of the truck had been ejected in the crash. The Cadillac came to rest in a nearby field.
The driver of the GMC was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released their identity pending family notification. The passenger of the pickup truck was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition, though their condition has since stabilized. The driver of the Cadillac also sustained critical injuries and was taken to the same hospital.
Emergency responders worked quickly to secure the area, render medical aid, and begin an initial investigation. The intersection was temporarily closed as crews assessed the wreckage and reconstructed the collision.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident, and further details are expected as the case develops.
