Houston, TX (January 21, 2026) – A pair of separate crashes created major traffic disruptions on I-45 North Freeway early Tuesday, with at least one person transported to the hospital and both directions of the freeway temporarily shut down near Quitman and Cavalcade Streets.
The first incident involved an 18-wheeler that jackknifed in the northbound lanes near Quitman St during the early morning commute. Houston TranStar cameras captured the aftermath, showing only one lane open as emergency crews worked to safely reposition the semi and clear the roadway. The truck was eventually turned around, allowing traffic to resume.
Shortly after, a second crash occurred near Cavalcade St just before 6:40 a.m., involving a truck and a car in both the outbound and inbound lanes. Officials confirmed that at least one individual sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate the sequence of events and contributing factors involved in each collision. Our thoughts are with those injured in Tuesday’s incidents, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.
