Bellmead, TX (January 21, 2026) – A tragic auto-pedestrian collision claimed the life of a 75-year-old man in Bellmead, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. on January 19 along the northbound side of IH-35 near mile marker 339. Authorities say Edward Sparks, a Waco resident, was attempting to cross the interstate when he was struck by a GMC Sierra traveling northbound. Emergency personnel responded quickly, but sadly, Mr. Sparks was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
The driver of the GMC Sierra remained at the location and was not reported to have sustained any injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no additional injuries were reported, according to DPS.
Troopers shut down portions of the freeway while they secured the area and conducted a preliminary investigation. It remains unclear what circumstances led to the pedestrian being in the roadway, and officials say the investigation is ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Edward Sparks during this difficult time.
