Portland, OR (January 21, 2026) – A serious two-vehicle crash in northeast Portland on Saturday morning left both drivers injured and resulted in criminal charges for one of the motorists, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
The collision occurred on January 17, 2026, and involved a Honda Accord and a Kia Sorento. Emergency crews arrived at the scene and had to extricate the Honda’s driver, 27-year-old Kevin DeJesus Mendoza De La Cruz of Portland, from the wreckage. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Kia Sorento was also hospitalized. Both individuals are expected to recover from their injuries.
Following the crash, DeJesus Mendoza De La Cruz was cited for driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. Investigators believe impairment was a contributing factor in the collision.
In addition to the primary vehicles, a parked Subaru was also damaged in the crash.
