Montebello, CA (January 21, 2026) – A pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries on Saturday evening after being struck by a Montebello Police Department vehicle while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk, according to officials.
The collision occurred around 5:38 p.m. on January 17 as officers were responding to a call regarding a possible DUI driver near Montebello Blvd and Victoria Ave. During the response, one patrol unit was traveling eastbound on Beverly Blvd when it struck the pedestrian at the intersection with Howard Ave.
According to the California Highway Patrol, which has taken over the investigation, the officer attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the individual but was unable to prevent the impact. The pedestrian was in the crosswalk at the time of the collision.
Paramedics provided emergency care at the scene before transporting the victim to a nearby hospital. As of Monday afternoon, the individual remained in critical but stable condition, per CHP statements.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision. No additional information about the officer or the pedestrian has been released.
