Queens, NY (January 22, 2026) – A vehicle collision with reported injuries occurred on Wednesday near Flushing Meadows-Corona Park at the busy interchange of the Long Island Expressway (I-495) East and the Van Wyck Expressway (I-678) South in Queens.
The crash took place during daylight hours in one of the borough’s most heavily trafficked corridors. Emergency units responded swiftly to the scene to assess the crash, which involved multiple vehicles in a high-speed zone near the park perimeter. At least one person sustained injuries and received care from on-site medical personnel.
Traffic in the area was severely impacted as responders worked to stabilize the scene, treat the injured, and remove damaged vehicles from travel lanes. Authorities directed traffic away from the area and urged drivers to seek alternate routes during the midday slowdown.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The complex merge of expressways near Flushing Meadows often contributes to congestion and elevated crash risks, especially during peak hours.
