Oakland, CA (January 22, 2026) – An 88-year-old man was transported to Highland Hospital after being involved in a traffic collision near East 31st St in Oakland on January 21. Emergency crews responded to the scene after the crash occurred at speeds estimated around 40 miles per hour.
According to paramedics, the man had been sitting in the driver’s seat and was properly restrained when the collision occurred. The vehicle’s airbags deployed, and despite the impact, he did not lose consciousness or suffer a head injury. The patient was alert and oriented with a Glasgow Coma Scale of 15 and was able to exit the vehicle on his own before first responders arrived.
Medical personnel noted that he is currently prescribed a blood thinner (Pradaxa), which raised concerns due to the potential for internal bleeding. Vital signs remained stable throughout transport, and no immediate life-threatening injuries were reported.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash. No additional information has been released regarding the cause or other parties involved.
