Nogales, AZ (January 23, 2026) – A multi-vehicle accident resulting in injuries was reported Thursday evening on the northbound side of Interstate 19 in Nogales, prompting a major emergency response and a temporary shutdown of the roadway. The crash occurred on January 22 and remains under investigation by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Several vehicles were involved in the collision, though officials have not yet confirmed how many people were injured or the severity of those injuries. Firefighters and DPS officers responded to the scene to assist the victims and secure the area.
Authorities closed the northbound lanes of I-19 following the crash, causing significant traffic disruption into the evening hours. As of 8:00 p.m. Thursday night, the lanes were still shut down with no clear estimate on when they would reopen.
In addition to injuries, at least one individual was taken into custody for reasons that have not been made public. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the collision and whether any charges will be filed.
