Lawrence County, MO (January 24, 2026) – A tragic head-on collision on January 23 claimed the life of a 19-year-old man and left three others injured on Missouri Highway K, approximately three miles north of Aurora. The crash occurred around 5:29 p.m. and prompted a major response from Missouri State Highway Patrol and local medical personnel.
According to investigators, the 19-year-old driver of a southbound 2020 Honda Civic crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a northbound 2012 Dodge Ram. The impact caused catastrophic damage to both vehicles, and both were towed from the scene by Hillbillys Towing.
The young driver from Aurora, MO, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced deceased at the scene by a physician from Mercy Hospital. The Lawrence County Deputy Coroner also responded. His body was later released to Lakin Funeral Home in Peirce City.
Inside the Dodge Ram, a 36-year-old woman from Springfield sustained minor injuries. A 37-year-old male passenger in the same vehicle was seriously injured, and a 9-year-old boy in the rear seat suffered moderate injuries. All three were transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for treatment. Only the juvenile was confirmed to have been wearing a seat belt.
The crash is under investigation by Cpl. A. Enderle and Trooper J. Bondurant with the MSHP Major Crash Investigation Unit. Troop D reported this as their fourth traffic fatality of 2026.
