Jackson County, FL (January 26, 2026) – A 22-year-old pedestrian tragically lost their life after being struck by two vehicles on State Road 77 near midnight on Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The fatal incident occurred when the individual entered the roadway and was hit first by a pickup truck and then by an SUV traveling in the opposite direction.
Troopers reported that a 23-year-old man from Alabama was driving a silver pickup truck northbound on SR-77 when the pedestrian, identified as a Caryville resident, stepped into the northbound lane from the east shoulder. The pedestrian stood in the travel lane and was struck by the front of the pickup.
As a result of the impact, the victim was thrown into the southbound lane, where they were subsequently run over by an SUV driven by a 35-year-old woman from Chipley. Authorities confirmed the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither driver sustained injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. No charges have been filed at this time, and the identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
