San Diego, CA  (January 27, 2026) – Two people were hospitalized following a major traffic collision near Executive Dr in San Diego late Monday afternoon. The crash, which occurred around 5:50 p.m., involved two vehicles and resulted in injuries serious enough to trigger a trauma response by UC San Diego emergency crews.

The incident took place as a sedan, stopped at a red light, had just entered the intersection on green when it was struck on the driver’s side by another vehicle reportedly traveling between 30 and 40 miles per hour. The force of the t-bone collision caused significant impact, though no passenger compartment intrusion was reported in the struck vehicle.

The 29-year-old male driver of the sedan sustained a head injury and pain in his right lower leg. According to the female passenger, he had lost consciousness for approximately two minutes following the crash but was found lying on the ground alert and breathing by the time responders arrived. His vitals were stable, and he was transported with suspected major trauma.

The second occupant, a 26-year-old woman, was also evaluated at the scene. She complained of chest pain consistent with seatbelt compression but remained fully alert with normal vital signs. Both patients were restrained at the time of the collision, and their vehicle’s airbags did not deploy. In contrast, the striking vehicle’s airbags—both front and curtain—were activated upon impact.

UC San Diego’s Medic 18 and Medic 1 handled the transports, and an investigation is underway to determine whether the driver who ran the red light will face citations or charges. Officers are reviewing traffic camera footage and witness statements to confirm the sequence of events.

We extend our best wishes to both individuals for a full and swift recovery following this alarming crash.
