St. Louis, MO (January 29, 2026) – A two-vehicle accident on the southbound ramp from Interstate 270 to Interstate 55 on Wednesday afternoon resulted in one person being transported to the hospital with injuries and both vehicles sustaining significant damage.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 3:15 p.m. when a 2009 Ford Focus, driven by a 20-year-old man from Barnhart, struck the rear of a 2010 Ford Fusion. Initial findings suggest the Focus was following too closely and failed to stop in time as traffic slowed on the ramp.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage in the impact. The Fusion had to be towed from the scene by Miners Towing, while the Focus came to rest along the roadside. Emergency medical services from the Mehlville Fire Protection District responded and treated the 32-year-old male driver of the Fusion, who suffered injuries. He was transported to Mercy Hospital South for further care. The other driver was reportedly unharmed and had been wearing a safety belt at the time of the collision.
Traffic on the ramp was temporarily disrupted while crews worked to assess the scene and remove the vehicles. Troop C is handling the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the collision, which remains active at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for a smooth recovery.
