Lawton, OK (February 19, 2026) – Multiple children were rescued from a burning home early on Tuesday morning in Lawton, with two airlifted in critical condition, according to the Lawton Fire Department. The devastating structure fire occurred at a residence on SW C Ave.

Fire crews arrived at 1707 SW C Ave on February 17 at approximately 4:01 a.m. and found the home heavily engulfed in flames. Firefighters entered through the rear of the structure and located a child inside, removing the victim from the residence. During continued search efforts, a second child was found and rescued.

Life-saving measures were immediately initiated by Lawton Fire Department personnel, Lawton Police officers, and Memorial Health EMS teams. Two of the rescued children were transported from the scene and later airlifted to a hospital in Oklahoma City in critical condition. Their mother was also transported with injuries sustained during the fire. Four additional children and one adult inside the home were able to escape without injury.

Local Context

Residential fires in neighborhoods like SW C Ave in Lawton can escalate rapidly, particularly during early morning hours when occupants may be asleep. In such emergencies, crews typically prioritize life safety by conducting primary searches while additional teams work to suppress flames and prevent spread. Air medical transport is often requested when injuries are severe or specialized care is required. Following suppression efforts, investigators carefully examine burn patterns, electrical systems, and possible ignition sources to determine how the fire began. Temporary road closures and extended on-scene operations are common while crews ensure the structure is safe and complete documentation.

What to Do Next

  1. If you experience a house fire, evacuate immediately and call 911 from a safe location.
