Lubbock, TX (April 22, 2026) – An 18-year-old was seriously injured following a golf cart crash on Tuesday night, April 21, in central Lubbock.
Emergency units were called around 9:00 p.m. to the area of 2nd St and Ave K to assist with a reported injury incident. Upon arrival, responders found 18-year-old Jonathan Garcia with serious injuries.
He was transported to UMC for medical treatment. Two other occupants in the golf cart were not injured.
Preliminary findings indicate Garcia was riding as a front passenger in a golf cart traveling north in the 200 block of Ave K. As the cart turned west onto 2nd St, he fell from the vehicle and was injured.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
How Golf Cart Incidents Can Lead to Serious Injuries
Golf carts are smaller, open vehicles that offer little protection to passengers. Unlike cars, they do not have seatbelts or enclosed frames, which can increase the risk of injury during sudden movement or turns.
When a golf cart turns, passengers may shift or lose their balance if they are not securely seated. Uneven surfaces or sharp changes in direction can also contribute to falls from the vehicle.
Because golf carts are often used in mixed environments, such as neighborhoods or campus areas, they may share space with both pedestrians and cars. This combination can create unpredictable conditions that require extra caution.
