How Quickly Can Multi-Vehicle Crashes Escalate on Maryland Highways?
Crashes involving several vehicles often create complex and dangerous conditions. When one collision occurs, nearby drivers may have little time to react, especially during overnight hours when visibility is reduced. On highways like Route 2, higher speeds can increase the force of impact and the risk of serious injury.
Multi-vehicle accidents can also place people outside their vehicles, either due to ejection or while attempting to move to safety. This increases the danger of secondary impacts. Road closures are common in these situations to allow crews to provide aid and clear debris safely.
Drivers traveling on busy corridors such as Solomons Island Rd should reduce speed, maintain safe following distances, and remain alert for sudden stops, particularly during late-night or early-morning hours when traffic patterns may be unpredictable.
